have been to Hanguguan pass on a previous trip to China with some close friends. I didn't spend much time there, but I was glad that I made the trip! It was amazing to see a place with such a old history. There were lots of people there when we went eventhough the weather wasn't great.
It was pouring rain, and we had neglected to bring raincoats on our trip. We tried to purchase rain gear in China, but we could not find anything that would fit (as my friends and I are quite large people). We talked to a guy at our hotel, and he said that he would find us some plastic trash bags to use to cover our heads. That worked great! We poked holes in the tops of the trash bags to put our heads through and then poked holes in the sides of the bags for our arms.
Everyone would point and laugh at us because we sure looked funny walking around wearing trash bags. We didn't mind, because we knew that we did look very odd.
I would certainly recommend that anyone planning a trip to Sanmenxia or anywhere else in China purchase a raincoat before leaving the country. There are so many types and sizes of raincoats to choose from here in Canada that I can't imagine having a better selection anywhere else.
Good luck on your trip!
