Tekes County is a county within the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and is under the administration of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. It contains an area of 8,067 km2. According to the 2002 census, it has a population of 150,000.

Tekes County is a treasure land waiting to be developed with good conditions for animal husbandry and rich mineral resources which mainly in gold, copper, nickel, silver, platinum,lead, zinc and so on. There are also non-metallic mineral resources, like jade, marble, granite, limestone, coal etc. The largest tributary of the Ili river — Tekes river runs from west to east through the whole Tekes county. The main corps are spring wheat, corn, sesame etc. and there is successful planting of tobacco, sugarbeet and other economic corps.

The Eight Trigrams Town of Tekes County. The eight trigrams comes from Zhou Dynasty Book of Changes, or Iching. The layout of this city was made in the traditional eight trigram or octagonal pattern. With a square as a center, eight equiangular thoroughfares extend toward eight different directions, form a clear eight trigram pattern. Currently, it is the world’s largest and most complete eight trigram style city.

Focusing on deep processing of agricultural and livestock products, the county has developed a lots of industries like textile, woolen sweater factory, dairy products, fur processing, cement etc. and other township enterprises. Currently the urban and rural roads extending in all directions which is very convenient for traveling.
