Jiayuguang Pass is [Jiayuguan]

Jiayuguang Pass is located in the middle of the narrowest part of the valley on the highest upland of the Juayu Mountain.Extending some eight kilometers northward to join the suspended wall along the Heishan Moutain,and some seven kilometers southward to link up with the No.1 beacon-tower of the Great Wall it is the western end control along the Great Wall rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty.Therefore,it has always been known as "No.1 Pass of the Hexi Corrodor"since ancient times.The pass citadel was initiated in 1372,the fifth year under the reign of Hongwu,the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty.As the pass is located on a strategic point with magnificent towers it is renowned as the "Magnificent Pass under Heaven"and a '"Fastened Lock in Connection".

The Jiayu Pass consists of the inner wall,outer wall and the trench,froming a stronghold which was wasy to defend but hard to attack.Connected into one with the Great Wall it had formed a system for military defence with a beacon--tower every 5 li,a battlement every 10Li,a garrison_post every 30Li and every 100Li a garrison fortress of defence.
