Xishuangbanna Tropical Forest in Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province

The Xishuangbannan tropical rainforest is situated in the Dai Nationality Prefecture, Yunnan Province, through which the beautiful Lancang River flows from north to south. It is one of the important scenic spots of the whole country. Blessed by advantageous climatic conditions, it nurtures a myriad of species and is dubbed 'wildlife kingdom.'The brown woolly fig (ficus drupacea) grows averywhere in the forest, its trunk so huge it takes over a doaen people with outstretched arms to encircke it.

The specialty of Xishuangbanna Scenic Area lies in it is the primeval forest, tropical monsoon forest, precious ornamental plants. There are wild animals, tropical landscape of nature and abundant local conditions and life styles, special local customs of minority nationalities, the combination of dwelling construction with villages within garden, all showing typical and beautiful southern scenery.

In the primeval forest of Xishuangbanna, a huge variety of tropical plants grows so exuberantly that they block the sun. Xishuangbanna’s spectacular tropical landscape and pronounced ethic minority flavors make it a highly popular tourist destination.

Xishuangbanna prefecture is in a tropical climate, not too cold in winter and not too warm in summer, except for its sharp differences in the dry season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October.
