Mao¡¯er Mountain Nature Reserve, located 56 kilometers from Xingan County, is a 480 square kilometer forested ecosystem. Because the prominent peak of the main mountain is shaped like a cat, the Nature Reserve derived its name from the Chinese equivalent of "Cat Mountain."
The highest elevation of the mountain measures 2,142 meters tall, and is known for its scenic mix of prominent, dangerous, beautiful, and tranquil scenery.
Apart from its greatness and beauty, the mountain is also the starting point of the famous Lijiang, Zijiang, and Xunjiang River. Additionally, the Mao¡¯er Mountain also serves as the connecting point for both the Yangtze River and Pearl River.
