The Opium War in the modern Chinese history was bloody with many lives sacrificed. Lin Zexu despite all difficulties stood firmly in fighting against opium invasion. He is a remarkable figure in the modern Chinese history.

Entering the park, visitors first see the statute of Lin Zexu and the huge opium-destroying pools on the left-hand. June 3 of 1839 was the first day that Lin Zexu burned imported opium. In order to completely destroy opium, he ordered people to dig two huge pools around Humen beach. He poured opium together with raw lime ash into the pools, and then led sea water inside the pools to fire. It took more than 40 days to completely destroy the 2,376,254 kilograms of opium.

The Park hosts Opium War Museum and Lin Zexu Memorial Hall which displays substantial records and photos about destroying opium.
