The porcelain industry in Chaozhou reached its zenith early in the Song Dynasty and Fengxi located the west gate of Chaozhou became the most important production site since the Yuan Dynasty. Over the years, Chaozhou has earned the title of South China's ceramic capital due to its rich clay resources and porcelain industry.

Chaozhou porcelain is renown worldwide for its high quality depicted as "white as jade, thin as paper, bright as mirror, refine as silk and sound as music instrument". The Chinese Porcelain Bazhen (meaning 8 treasures) Store collects porcelain masterpieces from all over China. Furthermore, the second floor of the store displays the original "Painting of 500 Arhats", the longest colorful ceramic wall painting in the world.

The longest wall painting is the work of the curator Cai Jinchao, made by 508 tiles and cost him 15 months to complete. The painting is of 103 metres long and 1.5 metres high. The life-like nature of the 500 arhats figures, particularly their animated facial expressions, surely obtains every visitor's attention and appreciation. There is another recently completed masterpiece created by the curator- "The Eight Scenes of Chaozhou". The sophisticated ceramic sculpture uses subtle yet striking colors, perfectly features the bright and smooth surface of Fengxi ceramicware.
