It was built in 594, a base of China's foreign trade by sea, and a starting point of Guangzhou's ancient "silk road on the sea". It is said that a foreign tributary came to Guangzhou with two jackfruit saplings, and planted in front of the temple, so the temple is also called "Boluo" temple. Its temple fair was the largest folk fair at Guangzhou. People say when you visit the temple today, you will marry a wife tomorrow. Temple of South Sea God symbolizes that the "silk road on the sea" originates from Guangzhou, which has been opening to the outside, and it prays the safety for the sailors sailing afar.
