The ancient Shanyan city, situated at the east side of the Medical Power Corporation on the Jiangshe East Road of Jiaozuo City, belonged to Jizhou in the Xia-Shang-Zhou period, named as “Shanyang City” in Qing Dynasty and set up as “Shanyang County” in Han Dynasty. In Han Dynasty, Shanyang city got its supreme prosperity and became Emperor Xian’s (the last emperor of Western Han Dynasty) manor after he was demoted. It is recorded in History of Eastern Han and History of the Three Kingdoms that “Emperor Xian was granted Shanyang City in the inter part of the river and named Duke Shanyang in the first year of Huang’s reign in Wei Dynasty”. Empress Caojie (Caocao’s second daughter) was called Duchess Shanyang. The relics of the ancient city cover an area of more than 3000 mu and are the provincial cultural relics. It is planned that the importance will be placed on the development of two sides of the Jiangshe East Road and the architectural style of Han Dynasty will be the major style of the buildings. The multi-leveled plan will be implemented step by step, which includes Liuxie Square, Shanyang Palace, Cangmei Temple and Antique Calligraphy & Painting Market. The investment recovery period is estimated to be 6 years.
