Anchang Town [Shaoxing]

Anchang town, one of the earliest famous historical and cultural towns ratified by Zhejiang province, is located in the north of Shaoxing county, 7 km away from Keqiao and 1.5 km to the entrance of China Textile City into Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway. It is passed down that Anchang town is the place where Da Yu married his wife and gathered the vassals. With a long history of several thousand years, Anchang still keeps its riverside main street of 3 li, traditional stores, Taimen(an architectural style, popular in the southern part of China before), workshops, flagging lanes and old bridges all of which make Anchang renowned as 'Thousands of folk dwellings are built near the clean water, and the bridges like rainbows are crossing on the river.' With the establishment of a series of distinctive scenic spots such as 'Hall of Shaoxing Shiye(a post name in the feudal society)', the old Anchang town represents 'the cultural corridor filled with the flavor of south of Yangtze river; the picturesque scroll of local formalities; and a street abundant with characteristic goods.'
