Chengshantou in Weihai City of Shandong Province: Longing to embrace the sea

Chengshantou, known as 'the end of the earth,' sits at the easternmost point of the Shandong Peninsula. It is also called 'China’s Cape of Good Hope.'
Extruding into the sea, the cliffs have been cut steep by mighty waves and storms down the ages. Seething waves breaking upon the reefs can rise up to seven meters high. In the reserve area are also sea caves, sea pillars and other marine-cut landforms, as well as the red continental sedimentary bedrock at nearby Liukuang, all highly valued by Chinese and overseas geologists. Chengshantou’s zigzag coastline, its many bays and headlands, and abundant plankton food, attracts flocks of swans and other rare birds to go over winter here. It has become one of the world’s four major swan habitats.
