Chinese Brocade Village [Nanjing]

The village that located in Jiangdongmen Gate exhibits Chinese national brocade art with the representative of Nanjing’s Yun Brocade. The exhibition is made up of three parts, 'the operation of the Yun Brocade', together with Shu Brocade of Sichuan and Song Brocade, are called three famous brocades.
The Yun brocade is a kind of high-grade silk which came into being in the Yuan dynasty and prospered in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Throughout the history it was only available to the court as a tribute.

Because of the demanding requirements of skill and quality, several weavers working at a single machine can only be a segment of silk as long as 5-6 cm. Therefore there is an ancient saying in China to the effect that the Yun brocade is more precious than gold.
