brief introduction:
the temple is reputed as 'the daoist temple of thousand years' and is the earliest daoist temple in shanghai. it’s said to be built by sunquan of east wu of the three kingdoms period for his mother. emperor qianlong of the qing dynasty changed its name as 'qingchiyangdian'. it offers sacrifice to dongyue god, hence it has the name of 'dongyue palace'. the temple was rebuilt in the 35th year of qianlong(1770 ad). it had more than ten halls like dongyue, sanqing, chenghuang and guangdi halls etc, which housed more than 600 statue of gods. every march, april, july and september of the lunar calendar, the pilgrims will come in swarms there is a 'lotus boat meeting' on march 28 of lunar calendar, which is the birthday of dongyue god which attracts a large number of pilgrims.
