As a national level tourism & resort district in Shanghai, Sheshan National Tourism & Resort District has outstanding natural conditions and rich tourist resources. National Tourism Bureau ranks Sheshan National Forest Park as first batch of AAAA-grade scenic district. The Moon Lake at the foot of Sheshan is elegantly beautiful, and the 12 peaks at the northwest park are the only hilly greens in Shanghai. While offering great ecological environment to this city, Sheshan also creates excellent economic benefits from tourism. For instance, based on the unique tourist resources in Sheshan, along with various historical relics, Songjiang has developed a series of attractive and popular tourist program that make it a welcoming destination. In 2002, it received 2,710,000 domestic and foreign tourists, and achieved total tourist revenue of RMB1.344 billion.
At the same time, as the largest villa district out of Shanghai, it has attracted numerous real estate developers. Based on incomplete statistics, there are more than 40 villa projects under construction in Songjiang, with total volume more than 6,000 homes, and nearly 70% of them had been sold.
