The Beijing International Sculpture Park is full of wonderful sculptural art in a beautiful setting. It is located along the west line of Chang’an Avenue. It is a multifunctional park for sculpture appreciation, research, entertainment, and travel. The combination of natural landscape and manmade sculptures permeates its design, construction, and management. More than 200 sculptures from over 40 countries create this unique scenery.
The sculpture park is divided into east and west parts. Construction of the east part began in March, 2002 and it was opened to the public in the September of that year. Construction of the west part lasted from February to September. 2003 and 40 hectares of it are open to the public.
The east part is a city-scape plaza, while the west part is an area of natural scenery. An art gallery bridges the two parts----a smooth transition from urban to rural.
Entering the north gate, there is a balanced symmetry of all the landscape scenes from north to south, passing through the theme sculpture 'Spring Ceremony,' the main Building-- 'Butterfly Flies Down the Jade Spring' and the 'Future Music Fountain Plaza.' It is called the overture of the symphonic poem for Beijing International Sculpture Park.
Walking along the axis toward the west, greenery gradually comes into view, with the sculptures like shinning pearls strewn about. It is like a huge stage for exhibition of the art work. Passing through the sports center for the seniors and the recreation center for children, visitors will enter the underground arts gallery full of musical sounds. Walking along the underground art gallery to the west, visitors come to its west part appealing for its flowing lines and the rhythmic shape. The west part, also with a landscape of green and art like the east part, echoes the same ecology and sculpture.
The west landscape forms an axis from east to west. The theme sculpture 'The Gate of the Spring' with the height of 20 meters at the west gate embodies the theme and echoes 'Butterfly Flies Down the Jade Spring' at the east part symbolizing a brilliant future. At the lake, ancient trees, delicate chairs, wood bridges and many other features remind visitors of natural scenery.
Beijing International Sculpture Park is a park integrating culture, ecology, landscape and art. The park is a place for enjoying scenery and art, sharing cultures and exchanging ideas with the world.
