Located in Yulin City which is a contiguous area of Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia- Shanxi in the most northern part of Shaanxi Province as the largest region of Shaanxi Province, Yulin is rich in energy and mineral resources, accounting for 30 percent of the nation's mineral resources, known as China's Kuwait, so it is the country's building energy chemical industry base, the headwaters of the western coal to the East, the hub of the western electricity to the East, and the hinterland of the western natural gas to the East. In 2006, the GDP of Yulin City was 43.6 billion Yuan, together with an increase of 17 percent and the first strong growth rate in Shaanxi Province for five consecutive years.
Yulin Airport, founded in 1958, was renamed of Yulin Airport Co., Ltd. of Western Airport Group in September 2006, opening two airlines to Xi'an and Beijing. In recent years, relying on the local unique economic and regional advantages, and grasping the market and the opportunities for development, Yulin Airport made a significant progress in its main business. In 2006, its passenger throughput achieved 112,000 persons/times, exceeding a mark of 100,000 persons/times for the first time. In order to meet the demand of local economic and social development, the relocation of Yulin Airport has already constructed, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2007. When the new airport is put into use, its passenger throughput is expected to be more than 0.2 million passengers in 2010 and to reach 0.4-0.5 million passengers in 2015.
